Caring for Destination
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Responsible Tourism and Awareness through tourism and involvement through local community and businesses
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
This tour employs local guides, home stays, and hotels that are all owned and run by locals. Young and passionate local girls and boys are preferred to guide the travellers. Smaller businesses like self-owned taxis by individuals are hired and employment is generated through means of tourism to all the sections of the society. Involvement of smaller communities while passing through villages to make hot lunch and tea for travellers are promoted.

This is a fun ride but also a very slow ride through picturesque scenery of Darjeeling. It could take around 8-9 hours to reach Darjeeling by Toy Train. So the recommended thing to do is to take a short joy ride instead.
Approximately 82 kms from Siliguri (road connection to other cities in India) and New Jalpaiguri (closest railway station connecting to other major cities) Darjeeling and Gangtok is easily reachable within 3 hours from both these places.
